How it works

Your files stay with you.

Fylix tools do their work in your browser. Here's what happens when you use one, and the few cases where something does go to a server.

The journey

  1. 01

    Choose a tool

Each job has its own page, so a search for "merge pdf" lands you right on the merger.

  2. 02

    Add your file

Drop it in or tap to pick it. The file is opened by your browser, not sent anywhere.

  3. 03

    Set your options

Target size, quality, page order, password. Sensible defaults are already chosen.

  4. 04

    Process

Your device does the work. Big files take a little longer on slower phones.

  5. 05

    Download

You see the result and its size before saving. Close the tab and it's gone.

01

Browser processing

Every image, PDF and file tool on Fylix runs inside your web browser. Fylix sends the tool's code to your device, and your device reads, changes and saves the file.

That's why the tools work without an account, why there's no upload progress bar, and why they keep working if your connection drops after the page has loaded.

02

When a server is involved

Two tools use an AI service: the Image Size Advisor and PDF Summary. The advisor sends your description and basic facts like width and height, never the photo. PDF Summary sends the text you paste, and asks you to agree first.

Accounts and Pro payments also use a server, since your plan has to follow you between devices. No file you process is ever part of that.

03

File security

Fylix has no file storage. There is nothing to delete later, because your files are never received. Results exist in your browser's memory until you download them or close the page.

04

Why formats differ between tools

Each tool accepts the formats your browser can reliably read and write. JPG, PNG and WebP work everywhere. HEIC needs a special decoder, which Fylix loads only on the HEIC page.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint files can't be turned into PDFs accurately inside a browser, so Fylix doesn't offer those conversions yet rather than offering a poor one.

05

Processing time

Speed depends on your device and the file. A phone photo compresses in a second or two. A 40 MB scanned PDF has to be redrawn page by page, which can take a minute on an older phone. The first use of some tools also loads a library, so it's a little slower than the second.

06

Free tools

Every tool is free, with no sign-up. Free use has sensible limits, such as file sizes, which each tool lists on its page.

07

Pro

Pro removes ads and helps pay for the site. It's tied to your Fylix account, so it works on every device you sign in on, and you can cancel from your account page at any time. See pricing.

08

Privacy

Fylix doesn't see your files. If you make an account, it stores your email, name and sign-in details so you can log in, and your plan. The Privacy Policy has the full detail.
